White gold and purity
White gold is a gold alloy with metals that change its colour. It is commonly marked 585 for 14k or 750 for 18k, just like yellow gold.
Is white gold cheaper to sell?
No, not because it is white. A 14k white gold ring and a 14k yellow gold ring have the same gold content per gram. The final offer depends on purity, weight and condition.
What about rhodium plating?
Many white gold jewellery pieces are rhodium plated. This affects appearance, not the gold purity. We still test the alloy itself.
Jewellery with stones
For rings and jewellery with diamonds or gemstones, we assess the precious metal and the stones separately.
